Iran ignores EU gas import ban talk

8 Oct 2012, 1.10 am GMT

Dubai, 8 October (Argus) — Iran has dismissed a possible EU ban on Iranian gas imports as misinformation.

The Iranian oil ministry's spokesman, Alireza Nikzad Rahbar, said Iran exports no gas to Europe, calling the EU's threat to ban gas imports from Iran as just propaganda, the ministry's news agency Shana reported.

The comments follow reports that the EU is poised to ban imports of Iranian gas into Europe as part of its increased sanctions pressure over Tehran's nuclear programme that it maintains is for civilian use.

The EU's policy of sanctions towards Iran's energy industry will only intensify their dependency on other suppliers, Rahbar said.
