Northern Italy power plant outages on the rise
London, 24 September (Argus) — Planned outages at coal and gas-fired power plants in Italy have begun to rise and are scheduled to reach a two-month high in early October.
Off line capacity in northern Italy — where most of the country's generation capacity is concentrated — will today exceed 4GW and will reach 6.6GW on 7 October, according to data from grid operator Terna. Total outages in the area will then begin a descent towards 4GW by the end of October.
Among the largest single plant outages this week are Edipower's 806MW gas-fired Piacenza unit on 22 September-13 October, Enel's 615MW coal-fired Torrevaldaliga Nord plant on 22 September-14 October and Eon's 804MW combined-cycle gas turbine Livorno plant on 23-24 September.
Outages in other regions will remain close to or below 1GW in coming weeks, with the exception of southern Italy, where off line capacity is scheduled to hit 2.6GW on 8 October.
